 Welcome

The institute is hosting a meeting to discuss classically-inspired intuitive interpretations of quantum electrodynamics and extensions of classical electrodynamics. The aim is to provide a relaxed and supportive environment for those who are interested in pursuing the classical paradigm beyond its commonly accepted limits. The meeting is scheduled to be held in Austin, Texas from April 24th - April 28th.

Attendees are invited to offer assessments of the efficacy of intuitive pictures of particles and processes, principally of Quantum Electrodynamics. Discussions will probably include - amongst other things - the de Broglie-Bohm quantum potential, electron spin, Zitterbewegung, the zero-point fields of second-quantized EM and Dirac, and classical diffusion processes that are analogues of the Dirac equation. Beyond novel interpretations of existing theory invitees will also be encouraged to talk about alternatives and extensions of standard classical theory, especially those that might encroach on traditional quantum territory, including, for example, stochastic electrodynamics, direct-action (time-symmetric) electrodynamics, and tachyons.

We aim to provide an environment wherein there is an opportunity for interactive participation, including analysis, criticism and development of each other's ideas. The number of attendees will be no more than about a dozen. Session topics will be chosen to maximize the overlap of participant interest with a format designed to give all comers an opportunity to participate in each session. In talking about their own work participants will be encouraged to be completely open about the problems, shortcomings, work needing to be done, and how their work does & does not fit in with others' contributions. So that participants can familiarize themselves each other’s work in advance of the forum, they are asked to provide one or two relevant references. Invitees are also encouraged to send suggestions for the itinerary, and any notes, documents, or articles they think might be useful for this website.
